OSCON relocates to San Jose for July 20-24

It may have been a Portland tradition, but this year OSCON is headed to the Bay Area

The longest-running open source conference, OSCON, will be heading to the San Jose Convention Center this year. For those who have not been to OSCON, it's a great technical conference covering the whole spectrum of open source, including Linux, MySQL, the LAMP stack, Perl, Python, Ruby on Rails, middleware, applications, cloud computing, and more.

OSCON always has great keynotes, tutorials, and evening Birds-of-a-Feather session. As with many conferences, a lot of the meat takes place in hallway conversations and impromptu sessions.

O'Reilly has been promoting the conference with some healthy registration discounts -- use the os09jul4 code to get 40 percent off by July 7. If you can't make time for the full show, you can also register for a free expo pass.

I'll be on a panel session on Thursday, July 23, called "Beyond the Hype: The True Cost of Open Source" with Matt Asay from Alfresco, Tony Frazier from Cisco, Matt Deuel from Virgin Mobile, and Jeffrey Hammond from Forrester Research. This is part of the business track at OSCON, but we'll try to make sure we address practical issues of interest to developers and managers. If there's a question or topic you'd like us to explore, please feel free to post it as a comment.
